Olympic torch to climb Everest

Blind climbers have made it to the top of the planet's highest peak, so have double amputees. So why not the Olympic torch?
That must be the thinking of the Olympic committee for the 2008 games in Beijing. They plan to send the torch up the South Col route.
Here's the story from the BBC.
This is salt in the wounds of the Free Tibet folks, who point out that Everest was part of Tibet until China invaded the country in 1949.
We'll see if the plan hatched in Beijing can stand up to the mountain's unpredictable weather.

May Sagarmatha unleash her fury and blow that torch to hell. Free Tibet.
