Colors of the Peak

Gazette photographer Christian Murdock sent me this photo from a trip up Barr Trail earlier this week. The mountain got about 3 feet of snow, he said. The storm late last week took its toll on the aspens mid-mountain. "The leaves are all brown up there," he said. "They're still yellow - and even green - down below, but it's all over up higher in elevation."

Neal and Teresa, Barr Camp's caretakers, told Christian they ran around shaking snow off the trees near camp, trying to prevent branches from snapping. Between the snow and the thaw-turned-ice, it sounds like they had quite a lot of work to do.

Trail conditions up high were pretty slushy, he said. Anyone been up there today? What's it like?

Anybody know if they plow Elk Park Overlook parking in the winter?

Hey, Zen.
I asked Deb and Dave to respond if they knew. They've been out and about.

Oh, and Christian points out his photos was taken from Lightning Point.

Christian should send this photo in to the Ellen deGeneres show - she is looking for "Leaf peeping" photos and so far nothing compares to this.
