REI opens new green store in Boulder

REI’s new Boulder store is the first retail location that is part of the co-op’s prototype initiative to use recycled "green" materials and energy efficient lighting .It's also twice as big, which pretty much cancels out any savings there might have been.

Building "green" is nice and all, but some technologies that might not be considered "green" are, in my mind, preferable. Such as solarcrete (other companies make the same thing) which is 12+ inch thick concrete walls with foam in the middle. Gives an R value of 36!

Think of the energy savings over the life of the building.

Disclosure: I am in no way involved with Solarcrete, I just happen to think it is a really neat product
