To the bat cave!

Well, OK, it isn't exactly a cave. In the Gazette's Out There section today we have a story about the 250,000 bats that live in t he Orient Mine, in the San Luis Valley. Seeing them all fly out of the mine is one of the coolest sights I've ever seen. It's easy to go see them, find out how by visiting the Website of the Orient Land Trust.
You can also see the outflight on-line. The Division of Wildlife has a pretty good video. Click here, then scroll down to "Wildlife Videos" and click "All about Bats."

You can learn much, much more about the facinating free-tailed bats that live in the mine from Bat Conservation International.
