Be on the lookout

My wife and I saw the most amazing beetle crossing the upper, upper end of Ruxton Avenue. It was as long as my index finger, slightly darker than the longhorn beetle pictured here, but not quite black. It did have long, clearly segmented antennae like the longhorn, but as far as I know, this is an eastern beetle.
Anyway, it was sitting right in the middle of the road about an hour before dusk. I gently pushed it over to the side with my foot so it wouldn't get run over. It didn't hiss or click.
What is this beetle? I have no idea. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera with me, but it was easily the largest beetle I've ever seen.
It doesn't appear in the very good "Guide to Colorado Insects." So I'm at a loss.
Anyone who sees it or its bretheren scurrying around, try to get a picture so we can solve this riddle.
Also, anyone with a beetle background, feel free to chime in.

I'd like to hear what that beetle is!

In June I saw a beautiful blue beetle. My young niece said it was a big blue lady bug. Yes, it did have some black dots and kind of a similar shape to a lady but but it was more like the size of one's thumb nail.

You can go to www.whatsthatbug.com and browse through the beetle pages to see if you see anything familiar.
