Interestingly, Colorado does still have ski troops, though you rarely hear about them. The Special Forces have teams that specialize in winter maneuvers, including skiing and snowmobiling. I know the 10th Group, stationed at Ft. Carson, has at least a few of these teams and they train in the Rockies. I once went to Breck with one of the guys, and he skied my pants off.

More on the 10th Mountain Division
Out There ran a story today on the annual ski meeting of 10th Mountain Division Vets. The 10th Mountain guys started at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs, then moved to Camp Hale near Minturn. They now reside at Fort Drum in New York -- not exactly a mountain hot spot. Here are some links to history and photos.
