GOCO OKs $8.5 mil for parks

The Great Outdoors Colorado Board has voted to approve $8.5 million for Colorado State Parks fiscal year 2008 investments, according to a statement released today.
The approved investment plan includes funding for:
++ Land and water protection, including resource stewardship projects, GIS mapping and resource inventories, and park stewardship plans.
++ Land and water acquisitions, including buffer properties for parks and water leases to ensure that state parks can meet visitor demand.
++ Park enhancements, such as major facility rehabilitation at Cherry Creek, Trinidad, and Chatfield State Parks. This rehabilitation will include upgrading campgrounds and trails, building new picnic shelters, and improving existing day-use amenities.
++ Fire mitigation funding for work at Staunton, Golden Gate Canyon, Cheyenne Mountain, Mueller, and State Forest State Parks.
++ State Trails Program funding, to construct and rehabilitate trails statewide.

Colorado's 41 State Parks attract more than 11 million visitors a year. Recognize the photo above? Comment below.
