Vail's is planning a public art project made up of 3,000 windmills on a hillside above the Vail golf course. Above is a similar installation from Iceland.
The high-tech windmills have been engineered by the artist to produce light in minimal wind conditions using translucent polycarbonate shafts and LED lights. See video of it here. So on windy nights, the mountain will be a wave of surging lights. So much for the dark skies initiative. As for me, I always find the best part of a night high in the mountains is the amazing spread of stars.
