If "climb Longs Peak" is still on your to-do list for summer or fall, you might have to change your plans.Park staff has changed the status of the popular Keyhole Route on the fourteener from non-technical to technical.
There are 4-6 inches of snow in the Trough right now, and the route isn't expected to melt out this season.
Ice ax and crampons are also recommended for the North Face, a technical climbing area on the mountain.
