Good news for cat lovers
The AP is reporting that Keystone has won final approval for an expanded Snowcat skiing operation, pending a 45-day appeal period for public comments:
Keystone officials had proposed adding guided and unguided bowl skiing in 278 acres of terrain in the upper Jones Gulch area, nearly all on terrain above 11,400 feet. Skiers and snowboarders would get there either by Snowcat or by hiking. White River National Forest Supervisor Maribeth Gustafson issued a finding July 28 that said the expanded Snowcat service would not result in significant impacts to the environment. Snowcat skiing is planned for about three to five days per week, although service may become more frequent when conditions are prime. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined that the proposal could have a slight effect on the endangered lynx, but that it was not likely to adversely affect the species.
