Summer ends fourteener skiing


Extreme skier Chris Davenport called it quits for the season after skiing Mount Holy Cross, his 45th fourteener this year. He has nine more if he wants to accomplish his goal of skiing all the state's highest peaks in one year, but, he said, there isn't enough snow.

In fact, he didn't find as much as he thought he would on Holy Cross. From his blog:

I knew it had a decent snowpack from this winter, but I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer to ski this classic mountain by its ultra classic route, the Cross Couloir. Normally, people can ski the couloir well into summer, but this year the window of opportunity will be very short, as Mother Nature continues to bake the Colorado Mountains to a crisp....
