Mountain Mix-up

The Gazette ran THIS STORY Friday about how Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer, in a commercial whose theme was "Colorado is my life" ran the wrong mountain in the background while explaining how he proposed to his wife on Pikes Peak.

Easy mistake, anyone could have made it.. It was Denali. But in an election year, the question is, would Mark Udall, long-time Outward Bound instructor, make the same mistake?

This is just another smeeeear job by the libbbberals in Congress. Udall is a good man and these DEMONcrats are making another mountain out of a mollllehill.

I got to go fill my prescriptions.

Yes Mark Udall is susceptible to the same kind of "mistake" because it's my understanding that Schaffer never saw the photo. He was gesturing to a green screen and the image was added later. It was the media consultant who made the mistake, not Bob Schaffer.

I would advise all my progressive brothers and sisters at the CDP and Progress Now to beware of this kind of political nitpicking.

It's petty at best and we need to rise above that kind of garbage. There are plenty of real issues on which to to go after Bob Schaffer.

Long as we're pointing out mistakes, I could mention that there is no mountain named Denali.

While we are pointing out how people misplace mountains, check out the lake and mountain the banner at the top of the Utah Democrat's webpage: http://www.utdemocrats.org/

You would think that the Utah Democrats would use a lake and mountains in Utah. Utah is home to a few National Parks and whatnot. But not the Utah Democrats. They choose a picture of Lake Louise in Alberta...

Posted back in January 2008. Posted here again for your enjoyment...

While the US Board of Geographic Names lists the peak as "Mount McKinley", the Alaska Board of Geographic Names officially lists the peak as "Denali", having renamed the mountain the same year "Mount McKinley NP" was renamed "Denali NP and Preserve" in 1980.

Prior to William Dickey's naming the peak "Mount McKinley" around the end of the 19th century, it had long been called "Denali" (which means the high one) in the native Athabascan language.

So depending on your place in this life, there is a mountain called Denali.

Fair 'nuff. Didn't know that the state of Alaska called the mountain Denali. Thanks.
