Grand Canyon flooding

The feds let loose the water from Glen Canyon Dam today in an experiment to help rebuild beaches along the Colorado River. This shot by photog Matt York (AP) shows the awesome power of the water - and the tremendous amount.

The Rocky is writing about the plan and about folks who showed up to gawk at the spectacle. Read all about it here.

I floated the river from the dam, through Horseshoe Bend, down a few miles, on a trip with my son and mom about 8 years ago. Absolutely gorgeous. You ride down through the tunnels made when creating the dam and come out on a ramp at the bottom, just above water level. Talk about feeling like an ant.
