DEER KILLED AT RAMPART SHOOTING RANGE

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is looking for information about a deer killed at the Rampart Shooting Range. The deer was discovered Thursday, August 23 by Forest Service employees and volunteers from Fort Carson who were doing a clean-up project at the range.

Any information would be helpful. If someone witnessed the crime, or has heard anything about it, they are asked to call Wildlife Officer Trina Romero at (719) 227-5284 or 1-877-265-6648.

I worry about the forest service's threats to close down that range. As terribly bad as it is, I shudder to think what the forest would be like if these fools lose their shooting range and spread throughout the forest.

Agreed, however, it would make the very nice trail into the top of Williams Canyon safer. I did it once, had bullets whizzing by, and will never do it again.

I've seen a many acts of stupidity at that range, but never deliberate killing of wildlife. You're right about the consequences of shutting down that range; shooters will spread throughout the forest and trash it worse than it already is.

I believe the shutting down of the Rampart Range Shooting area has multiple reasons....one is the safety of the trail listed in a previous comment here. Another is that a study by NRA folks suggests that the only way to make that range safe would be to make it managed, and that takes money.....aka...won't happen. So...closing it is the most likely end result, although closing it isn't without direct costs as well. Rehabbing is not cheap.
