"Rocky Mountain High" as state song?

Yes, some people want to make the bare foot John Denver classic an official state song.
No bill has been introduced yet, but I can already sense dissidence among certain types of lawmakers. Look, I like "Rocky Mountain High." It's fun to sing and easy to play on a guitar around the camp fire. But have you looked at the lyrics to this song? Here's the damning stanza:

Now his life is full of wonder
but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
Why they try to tear the mountains down
to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land

This is a nod to smart growth, limiting development, and valuing natural heritage above property rights. Not something the state house will likely vote for.

I also seem to recall The Onion's brave report on Mr. Denver's alleged affair with Janice the Muppet. If that doesn't preclude him from politics, I don't know what would.

Absolutely it should be the state song. Hell - with or without the "official" political stamp of approval from our statehouse whores and their campaign fueling developer pimps - it pretty much already is.

Name another Colorado song that's as memorable and well known, not only in Colorado, but across the nation.

Plus an ounce of 420 is "legal" in Denver. Rocky Mountain High indeed!

Bring it on!
