Mackey still in lead

There's still a ways to go, but Lance Mackey is still in 1st place (with 15 dogs) in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. He has reached Iditarod. The race Web site says the next section, to Shageluk, is desolate and though not tough can take its toll. It says musher sometimes caravan to ward off the "lonely and sometimes spooky feeling" of this stretch of trail. Five other teams also have reached Iditarod.

Glenwood Springs resident Bill Pinkham is in 33rd place and still has 15 dogs in.

Cabela's writer, Jon Little, says to look for a bonafide leader to emerge in this section of the race.
