Fans of Tucker Mountain at Copper will either be thrilled or a little disappointed by the Forest Service's approval for an expansion plan there. The Associated Press reported Monday that the agency's approval of a six-year-old plan will allow more snowmaking, more trails and a new chairlift on Tucker Mountain, that would serve an area that has been served by Snowcats. It will be easier to get to the great powder up there, but there could be crowds.
Environmental groups have opposed the lift, saying it will harm lynx habitat. The strangest part of the story? The Forest Service says not to worry - the animals can use the area when skiers aren't around, and can hide when the slopes are crowded.
