Outside magazine cuts annoying cards

Outside, America’s biggest active lifestyle magazine will discontinue the use of insert cards in all subscription copies starting in March, eliminating the printing of 20 million subscription cards this year alone. This step will save an estimated 1,500 trees.

I'm not a big fan of Outside but this is a very good move by them. I hate those cards falling out.

They can save even more trees by discontinuing publication. Outside is for posers.

Good move, those things are a pain.

Outside and all outdoor/travel magazines are really catching themselves in a pickle. Any publication that promotes travel & outdoor gear consumption and then paints themselves as being environmentally conscious is strictly full of it at this point.

The coming wave will be this: Why do we humans have the right to waste resources in order to feed our ego with outdoor activities? How does your ski trip or Nepal trek do anything but hurt the environment? I'm not sure how I see a way out of this logic, and this is where the current logic is headed.

A side note:
You can create 20 million subcription cards out of only 1500 trees? That's pretty darn efficient.

I agree with Brian. This resource-rich globe hopping is increasingly distasteful.

Yeah, I hate globe-hopping. But enjoy your trip to Mexico.
