From the AP: An 18-year-old man from North Carolina died Tuesday after hitting a tree at Breck. Resort officials said he was not wearing a helmet. Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson said he died of massive internal injuries.
Witnesses reported the teen was skiing very fast before hitting the tree, Richardson said. The ski patrol was alerted to the accident at 10:10 a.m., and the teen was taken to Breckenridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, resort officials said. The teen was at the resort for a church school senior trip. The group arrived in town Monday, and today was the teens' first day on the slopes.
