The lead position has changed a few times in the past 24 hours, but musher Lance Mackey is back on top in the Iditarod. He broke a sled runner Tuesday and limped along for miles on a rigged wooden cross-country ski. He was hoping to borrow a sled before heading out. I suspect since he's in 1st place that he's not running on broken equipment. He's only down 1 dog at the moment, too.
Mackey was out of Ophir, about 680 miles from Nome.
Bill Pinkham of Glenwood Springs, has moved up to 25th place from 41st of this time Tuesday. The latest info shows he has 15 dogs, too.
Go to the site and check out the interactive map. There's quite a climb ahead for the teams.
