Hurry up and wait, runners. The registration is delayed.
Dave posted this to The Gazette home page earlier:
Colorado Springs roads weren't the only avenues snarled this morning - March 1 is sign up for the region's premier running events, the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon.
After thousands of people spent the morning trying to log on and sign up for the races in August, registration closed at approximately 10:30 a.m. when a flood of would-be racers registering online crashed the server at www.active.com. Many would-be runners may have registered multiple times because their payment went through but they did not get confirmation.
Shortly after the servers shut down, organizers of the race posted this message on their web page, www.pikespeakmarathon.org: "Please stop trying (to register), relax and go about your day.We will come up with a solution to this mess. We are sorry - it was not on our end! But we will take responsibility and work with Active.com to fix this." Last year, the Ascent filled up in nine hours.
Gazette sports writer Brian Gomez will take over from Dave and write a follow-up story for Friday's Gazette. If you don't get registered, make sure you set aside the weekend to cheer the runners on!
