A dear deer

My mom is visiting again, and for her birthday wanted to hike a bit in Garden of the Gods. One thing she loves about the park - and Red Rock Canyon - is the likelihood she'll see wildlife.
Flowers were still blooming in GofG over the weekend, and deer were munching away on the lush grasses. Thought I'd share a couple of sights to inspire you to hit the trails over the long holiday weekend. If you know what the flowers are, let me know. I'll see if I can ID them in one of our books.

My birthday deer - I'm the mom and thought this guy was coming over to the trail to sing Happy Birthday! He was awesome and on up the trail we saw a young doe. My niece's comment when I sent her the address for the blog was, "I saw the picture of the buck. He's sweet looking and even his antlers
    look all warm and fuzzy!"

Off the top of my head, it looks like you captured a paintbrush and a thistle.

Yeah, I figured a thistle of some sort. I don't see it listed in my book, but I'll check again. Maybe ask at the Visitors Center if I get over there during biz hours.

A paintbrush? I'm used to Indian paintbrushes, but I'll check on this, too.

Thanks for the suggestions! I hear the flowers are spectacular in Ute Valley Park. Anyone been there recently?
